7 Web Resources Every Student of Online Medical Coding Schools Needs

Medical coding is a complex subject, but you can simplify your studies by using additional resources from the very start of your course. Luckily, everything you need is online, so you never have to leave home to learn all there is to know about the subject.

1. AAPC

Belonging to the American Association of Professional Coders will allow you to continue your education after you graduate, enabling you to keep enhancing your skills and knowledge — you can even achieve additional certifications to improve your employability. Joining while you are still a student is your best option, as you will be able to take advantage of special membership rates.

2. Medical Coding Help

The Medical Coding Help Twitter feed is dedicated to answering queries related to coding and reimbursement, making it ideal for students and professionals alike. Follow @Codapedia to read others’ most pressing questions or ask your own.

3. Billing

Billing is an academic journal from the Healthcare Billing and Management Association. With a membership, you can read all the recent trade news on a bimonthly basis, access useful resources, and utilize tools for coders.

4. ICD9Data

This free database contains all ICD-9, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes, easy to locate through the Google-powered search function and intuitive navigation. You can even access records of old code sets for reference.

5. Capture Billing

Learn how to improve your productivity by following Capture Billing, a blog that takes a business angle on coding topics. All posts are written by professionals in the field with years of experience.

6. Quizlet

Quizlet features sets of flashcards that you can use to learn and practice vocabulary. Create your own set or use existing cards, such as this one on medical coding study guide.

7. Indeed

Once you have graduated from your course, you will want to find the best options for works. Although some online medical schools do offer employment support services, you will open yet more opportunities if you perform your own job search. A great place to start is with Indeed, as you can look for jobs as well as uploading your resume to send employers to you.   All of the above are great supplements to online medical coding schools. However, to ensure that you are receiving top-quality education and that, once you graduate, you will be able to pass examinations for the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist or Electronic Health Records Specialist, study at an accredited school with experienced instructors.

“When my youngest child graduated from high school, I told my husband that it was my time. I went back to school to change careers after spending 37 years in the business field. At SCI, the instructors are professional, and they care about what they are teaching you, as well as expect you to give 100% in return. I had problems understanding how to draw in syringes and give injections. I requested extra help from a knowledgeable instructor, and I was able to receive one-on-one training. Today, I draw injections for approximately 100 patients each week. I am very confident in what I’ve learned. SCI has given me the chance to do what I always wanted to do. Thank you for my education. I am doing wonderful.”
