ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF NURSING

Healthcare is not a trend. It is a constant. Hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, and home health providers depend on trained professionals who can step into patient care roles with confidence and competence. As the population ages and healthcare needs grow across Texas, employers continue to look for individuals who are prepared—not just interested—in becoming part of the nursing workforce. But entering nursing can feel confusing. Many prospective students don’t know where to begin, how prerequisites fit together, or what happens between their first class and sitting for licensure. Questions about academic readiness, testing requirements, time commitment, and long-term progression often create hesitation. SCI’s School of Nursing exists to make nursing feel possible, predictable, and personal. Through a clearly structured pathway—Nurse Aide → Pre-Nursing Pathways → Associate of Applied Science in Nursing—students can see where they start, what comes next, and how they’ll be supported at each step. With hands-on labs, simulations, knowledgeable faculty, and advising designed to reduce friction in progression, the focus is not just enrollment—it’s preparation. The goal is simple: help students move from interest to ready, from ready to licensed, and from licensed to serving their communities with skill and confidence.

THE OPPORTUNITY

At the macro level, BLS’s national data projects about 1.9 million healthcare openings per year (average, 2024–2034) across the sector—an unusually large and steady volume of hiring pressure. Within that, Registered Nurses represent one of the strongest “core pipeline” opportunities. BLS’s national data also projects RN employment will grow 5% (2024–2034) with about 189,100 openings per year (average, 2024–2034)—and BLS notes many openings come from workers transferring out or leaving the labor force (a replacement engine that keeps hiring active even when growth is modest).

This is why the RN pathway tends to reward schools that reduce friction in progression (not just enrollment). In a replacement-heavy occupation, employers continuously need competent new entrants, and student outcomes hinge on whether prospects can move from “interest” to “ready” to “licensed.” That aligns cleanly with SCI’s positioning of a structured ladder—Nurse Aide → Pre-Nursing → Associate of Applied Science in Nursing— paired with hands-on practice, advising, and entrance-test preparation.

BLS national data also supports the value of a true stepwise on-ramp into nursing. Nursing assistants/ orderlies and LPN/LVN roles show very high annual openings even when growth rates are lower, meaning there is persistent churn and hiring demand at the entry and near-entry levels.

The strategic takeaway for SCI’s Nursing program is that BLS is signaling a large, durable volume of openings across the nursing ladder, with RN as the primary “career anchor” and entry roles characterized by high replacement demand. The market advantage is not simply claiming “nursing is in demand,” but showing how a student progresses—what they do first, how they meet prerequisites, how they prepare for testing, and how they stay supported through the transition into RN preparation. That is exactly what SCI’s nursing messaging framework is built to emphasize: making nursing feel possible, predictable, and personal through a clearly staged pathway.
