TRAIN FOR A
CAREER IN TECH
ABOUT The school of Technology
Technology is no longer a single industry. It’s the operating layer underneath almost every job sector. Healthcare offices run on digital records, small businesses rely on networks and cloud tools, logistics depends on data and systems uptime, and even traditional trades now use software, diagnostics, and mobile platforms. That creates a steady need for people who can support users, keep systems secure, build software, work with data, and design digital experiences.
But the opportunity is guarded by a significant barrier: many entry-level roles no longer ask for interest and tinkering experience; they ask for proof. Employers want candidates who can show hands-on ability (through example projects, troubleshooting example, portfolios), communicate clearly, and follow basic process and security practices. SCI’s School of Technology exists to close that gap with structured training that focuses on practical work students can point to when they apply.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Technology jobs are a great opportunity because nearly every industry now relies on software, networks, data, and security to operate.BLS groups these roles into “Computer and Information Technology Occupations” and projects about 317,700 openings per year (average, 2024–2034) from growth and replacement needs.
Within that umbrella, the strongest growth areas map directly to
what students see in the marketplace right now. Data scientists are projected to grow 34% (2024–2034) with about 23,400 openings per year, driven by rising demand for data-driven decisions and expanding volumes of data. Information security analysts are projected to
grow 29% with about 16,000 openings per year, and BLS ties that demand to the rising frequency of cyberattacks plus the need to secure new technologies as AI use and e-commerce expand. Software developers (and QA/test roles) are projected to grow 15% with about 129,200 openings per year, and BLS links that demand to continued expansion of software development for areas like AI, IoT, robotics, and automation applications.
At the same time, tech also has “wide entry” pathways with heavy replacement demand. Computer support specialists are projected
to decline slightly overall (-3%), but BLS still expects about 50,500 openings per year, largely because people move on, upskill, or exit the workforce. BLS also notes that automation (such as chatbots) is reshaping entry-level support work toward more complex cases. And on the digital experience side, web developers and digital designers are projected to grow 7% with about 14,500 openings per year, supported by continued e-commerce growth and demand for mobile- friendly websites and interfaces.
The market rewards candidates who can show proof of skill (projects, troubleshooting examples, portfolios), communicate clearly, and follow real-world process and security expectations. Framed this way, the School of Technology can be positioned as a practical on-ramp: helping students pick the right lane early, build demonstrable work they can show employers, and step into an entry-level role that gives them the experience to keep moving forward.
