The demand for skills-based training is already large, and still growing. Nationally every year, about 1.5 million students are enrolled in college-based trade programs and another 2.5 million students are enrolled in technical and vocational schools focused on hands-on careers. That’s roughly 4 million students who have already chosen a trades or technical pathway, signaling that skills-focused education is not a niche option but a major segment of postsecondary education.

At the same time, there is a significant pipeline of future students considering this path. Yearly, NCES reports about 15.5 million public high school students in the United States, and an estimated 1.1 million of them report interest in technical or trade school education. Many of these students make final decisions closer to graduation, when they are actively comparing college, work, and training options. This creates a strong opportunity for SCI’s School of Trades to position itself as a clear, practical choice for students who want to train for a trade and move toward in-demand careers.

Together, the 4 million students already in trade and technical programs and the 1.1 million high school students expressing interest represent a large and renewable audience that is actively looking for skills-based pathways. By offering focused, trades-oriented training and clear information about what students will study and practice in each program, SCI’s School of Trades can meet a real need in the market and provide students with an opportunity to prepare for meaningful, hands-on work.
