Career Certificate Programs in Texas

If you are wondering if certification can be earned, it’s important to be aware of the certification programs near you. For example, many jobs in Texas have certification and licensing requirements. Here are a few career paths with industry-specific certifications attached to them.

Business

Administrative Assistant

The administrative assistant program can be completed in 27 weeks. Students learn office procedures, accounting principles, executive assistance, and strategic planning. Furthermore, a certified administrative assistant has opportunities to work in small businesses, large companies, governmental agencies, law offices, schools, or any place where business is conducted.    

Business Accounting Specialist

The business accounting specialist program takes about 33 weeks to complete. This program focuses on accounting fundamentals, bookkeeping, business reporting, and business communication. 

Business Administration

Training in business administration prepares you to work in a variety of business office situations. You also learn the basics of managing business finances, operating an office, and dealing with customers. Additionally, full-time attendees can complete the course in business administration in 33 weeks.

  • Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Exel, Outlook, and Office Specialist
  • Certified Professional Bookkeeper
  • Intuit QuickBooks Pro
  • Entrepreneurship and Small Business

Medical

Medical training programs have certifications that are specific to the job.

Certified Nurse Aide

The certified nurse aide program can be completed in just five weeks. This is probably the fastest you can get certified for a job. It is also important to note that nurse aides should be certified in CPR in addition to nursing assistance. They also specialize in restorative services and patient personal care.

Medical Assistant

Medical assistants work in hospitals, doctor’s offices, nursing facilities, and insurance companies, to name a few. Available certifications include Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician, Electronic Health Records, and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant. And the program takes about 36 weeks to complete.

Medical Billing and Coding

The medical billing and coding program prepares students for a career in as little as 36 weeks. Certifications include Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist, Electronic Health Records Specialist, and Medical Administrative Assistant.

Medical Office Specialist

Medical office specialists manage offices in doctor’s offices, hospitals, and emergency care clinics. They can become certified as Microsoft Office Specialists and Certified Medical Administrative Assistants. And the program takes approximately 30 weeks to complete. 

Pharmacy Technician

Becoming a pharmacy technician requires 40 weeks of training and passing the certification exam. Candidates must also register with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy at the start of training as required background checks can take several months to complete.

Trades

HVAC

HVAC technicians have the opportunity to gain certifications in HVAC systems, EPA, Green, R-410A, Indoor Air Quality, NATE, and Preventative Maintenance. The program takes 36-48 weeks to complete.

Automotive Service Technician

The automotive service technician program takes approximately 9 months to complete. And certification is available from the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).

Electrical Technician

The electrical technician training program prepares students to begin gaining on-the-job hours toward state licensing in Texas. Courses in electrical components, wiring, lighting systems, conductors, and programmable controllers make up a large portion of the program which takes about 27 weeks to complete. 

Welding

The welding program can be completed in as little as 7 months. Welders are certified through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). They also gain hands-on experience in gas-metal arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, machine set-up, metallurgy, and welding safety.  

Technical 

Computer Support Specialist

The computer support specialist training program can be completed in 27 weeks. It prepares students for careers as IT support technicians, office help desk specialists, and desktop support technicians. Graduates also qualify for certifications in NETWORK PRO, CompTIA, and IC3.  

Cosmetology

Cosmetology Operator

Basic Cosmetology training leads to an operator’s license at SCI.  This program allows students to receive on-the-job training in hair cutting, styling, and coloring, facials, and skin care, nail techniques, makeup application, hair and scalp treatments, waxing and hair removal, and salon operation and management. Students are also ready for the state professional exam in 40 weeks.
