Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a cosmetologist, be a part of making someone feel beautiful, and having a skill that many spend hours on YouTube trying to copy? The cosmetology training program at Southern Careers Institute allows you that opportunity! Typically, new cosmetology students at SCI Corpus Christi start with the wonderful cosmetology instructor, April Zamora. We had the opportunity to talk with her about her background and what YOU should expect during your first few cosmetology classes.
Ms. Zamora began her cosmetology path after high school and has been in the business for almost 20 years with eight years as a licensed instructor! Ms. Zamora expressed her excitement in teaching COS135 Cosmetology Standards which helps prepare students for the industry and state exam. This class is one of the first four classes new students take in the cosmetology program. Saturdays frequently involves students collaborating with one another for makeup challenges such as a Disney theme, pop art, mono chromatic, or pick your decade.
Students also ‘Walk the Runway’ to build more confidence in their ability and self. Ms. Zamora mentioned students who study this craft should be diligent, motivated, determined, have an open mind, and be open to constructive criticism. She also mentioned she loves witnessing her students walk across the stage during graduation, and even more so, when a cosmetology student is a licensed, working cosmetologist.
