If you’re interested in becoming a pharmacy technician, there are certain steps you can take to optimize your career path and ensure success.

  1. Enroll in an Externship

It is always difficult to find a job when you have no experience. If you take an externship as part of your pharmacy technician training, you will enter the job market with valuable knowledge that is impossible to gain through classroom and lab training alone. An externship, therefore, could mean the difference between landing an entry-level job and obtaining a higher position.

  1. Become Certified

To work as a pharmacy technician in Texas, in addition to graduating from an accredited program, you will need to hold a Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCE). Furthermore, you can show off your abilities by becoming certified in Microsoft Word, which will demonstrate to potential employers your competency in using computers and software, an essential ability for the job.

  1. Choose Your Sector

Where you work as a pharmacy technician can have a big impact on your career path. For instance, if you work in a general merchandise store, pharmacy, drug store, or grocery store, you are likely to earn a lower salary. If you find a job in a hospital or ambulatory health care service, on the other hand, you can earn a bit more. Specialize in one of these latter sectors early on and you’ll be looking at a fruitful career.

  1. Ace the Interview

As a graduate, unsure of what qualities employers are expecting, interviews can be a nerve-racking experience. Seek expert advice to learn how to create a resume that will lead to numerous invitations for interviews and how to answer questions in a way that shows you’re the perfect fit for the job. If a high pharmacy technician salary in Texas is appealing you — and it should be! — enroll in a school that offers externships, the opportunity to gain useful certifications, and job-seeking support, including interview training and support with building your resume.
