The schools for pharmacy tech in San Antonio are very different from one another, and their diverse backgrounds affect everything from education style to campus life. To help you gain a better idea of the atmosphere at each, here is a short summary of their histories.

Alamo Colleges: Northwest Vista College

This year, Northwest Vista College celebrates its 20th anniversary. In the school’s first semester, just 12 students enrolled; there are now around 16,000 students taking courses on campus at San Antonio or online, making NVC the third largest highest institution in the city. As NVC didn’t open its first building until 1998, the school will also be holding its 17th graduation ceremony this year.

Brown Mackie College

The San Antonio campus is one of more than 25 Brown Mackie Colleges across the country. The school has a long history, its first campus opening in 1892 — the former Kansas Wesleyan School of Business, which became the Brown Mackie School of Business in 1938. In 2004, one year after coming under ownership of the Education Management Corporation, all the schools in the system took the name Brown Mackie College to create a clear link between campuses.

Southern Careers Institute

Southern Careers Institute was founded in 1960 and received its first accreditation in 1991. In 1992, the school began offering medical and business programs and in 1994 started its pharmacy technician course. In this same year, the San Antonio campus opened to form the third branch of the school.

University of the Incarnate Word

The ministry of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word began when a group of young French women arrived in San Antonio in 1869 to care for victims of a cholera epidemic. The university opened in San Antonio in 1900 as a Hispanic serving institution (HSI) and today provides education opportunities for student of all backgrounds.

Kaplan

Kaplan College is named for Stanley Kaplan, who started work as a teacher tutoring students (mostly from immigrant families) in his parents’ basement in 1938. By 1984, having opened more than 100 centers across the country, the institute was acquired by the former Washington Post Company, now Graham Holdings Company. Only in 2000 did Kaplan begin offering higher education programs, at which point this became its largest area of business.

Quest College

Quest College, one of the newest schools in San Antonio, opened in 1995 as Career Quest. The school uses original training concepts, developed by founder Jeanne Martin and her husband. One year after opening, Quest College received approval from the Texas Workforce Commission and it held its inaugural class on January 15, 1997. Today, Quest College is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education.   To gain a better idea of where you would like to study, visit the campuses of these schools for pharmacy tech in San Antonio, talk to past and current students, and read reviews of the schools online.
