Starting your future as a hairstylist is an exciting time!
You’re ready to help your clients feel and look like the best versions of themselves. The only step you have left is to pass the Texas state cosmetology exam.
Tips for Preparing for the Texas State Cosmetology Exam
Study a Little Each Day
Set aside time each day leading up to the exam for reviewing all of your material. You can never be too prepared. Be sure to focus on subjects or areas where you struggled during classes. You will want an extra review of these in case they come up on your exam. Creating tips such as acronyms or correlations can help you when you take the Texas state license exam.
Practice Makes Perfect
As extra studying will help you on the practical portion of the exam, practicing a little each day will help you be prepared for your practical exam. Working on a portion of the practical exam each day will help you more easily memorize the steps you need to take. Doing the steps in the correct order during practice will give you a guide to help you stick to the same steps on exam day.
Pack Ahead of Time
Be prepared by packing all of your essentials in advance of your exam day. Make sure you have packed your bags with all the necessary items and that you have enough of each for your practical exam. Be sure to complete any necessary paperwork and have your ID with you as you will need it to take your exam. Getting all of your things in order several days ahead of time will allow you to be less stressed and on time on exam day.
Get Enough Sleep
Never underestimate the power of a good night’s rest. The last thing you want is to step into your exam feeling exhausted. Make sure you plan your day and night before exam day so that you have plenty of time to decompress before bed so you can get adequate rest.
Being nervous about your upcoming cosmetology exam is normal. Don’t be too hard on yourself though! Everyone gets a little nervous at test time. You‘ve practiced for this, completed your hours, studied thoroughly, and are ready to excel at your licensing exam. Being overly anxious and worried will only cause you to do less than your best. Go into your exam with a positive mindset and do your best.
