Becoming A Pharmacy Technician

Medical professions are often thought of as difficult and time-consuming to achieve. For instance, if you want to become a doctor then it will take on average at least 10 years which is a combination of college, medical school and also residency training. This has caused many people to think that a career in medicine or healthcare is virtually impossible unless you start it from a younger age, but that’s simply not true.

In fact, you can earn a pharmacy technician certificate in under a year and immediately start to look for work. You can even opt for an associate degree for more opportunities and this may take an additional two years. This may be far less than what most people assume and can be a great entry point into the world of medicine and healthcare.

How to Become a Pharmacy Technician

In order to become a technician, you need to first complete a high school education or something equivalent. From here, you can immediately enroll in a pharmacy technician course. The course itself can take under a year and cover subjects like pharmacology, basic anatomy, healthcare systems, ethics, law and also medical terminology.

Since the course can cover basic health-related subjects such as anatomy and even topics such as ethics, it’s can be a self-contained course that doesn’t require you to study medical-related topics beforehand. You can simply enroll for this course and after you’ve completed it, you can start to find a job with no further education required. It’s can be a quick path to getting involved in the medical industry and doesn’t involve years and years of strenuous education, making it a very popular choice for high school graduates that want to become a part of the workforce as soon as possible and nurture their career at an early age.

Pharmacy Technician Certification

Working as a pharmacy technician also involves registration with the TSBP. You also need to be certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). A PTCB is also recognized nationally so if you move locations in the future, you can still seek to continue to work. Be sure to check state requirements.

Opportunities for Further Specialization

As a pharmacy technician, you also have the opportunity of specializing your focus in the future. Whether it’s working as a community pharmacy tech or even a central pharmacy operations technician, there can be many unique opportunities in the future that will be perfect for someone with a solid foundation in the pharmacy technician position.
