“No one is more cherished in this world than someone who lightens the burden of another.” -Joseph Addison Do you have a passion for helping people get things done better and faster? Does it bore you to think about doing the same task day-in and day-out–taking orders and flipping burgers; or answering and making the same calls again and again? Picture this–a morning where you show up at your own desk in the morning with a full agenda to check on and a big cup of coffee–both of which you made yourself. It’s early. Her impressive title, broad shoulders and confident, quick way she speaks to employees often intimidates them, and if you are going to be honest, you used to be nervous around her when you first began your job there as an administrative assistant. But not anymore. Not when you realized that it is YOU that she sees before anyone else every morning, and today is no different. She smiles and greets you by name to say, “Good morning! So what’s on the calendar today?”

Army Jobs for Civilians

Looking for “army jobs” now that you’re out of the military? They don’t come easy.[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]So, you’ve decided to hang up the uniform after years of distinguished service to our great nation. Staying in to pursue an army job isn’t for you anymore. You’ve attended a few transition classes, have your interview suit and shiny new resume as you make the leap into the civilian world. You feel confident, because you’ve seen your colleagues leave the uniform on Friday and come to work the following Monday in a suit and tie making twice as much salary. You storm the army job boards and job fairs. Never mind that although you’ve drafted a plan of action and milestones (POA&M) for every significant evolution of your military career, some of you have invested the least amount of time and effort into your own transition from an army job to a “real” or civilian job. Those of us in the hiring and recruiting business know firsthand that not all veterans are created equal, and, sometimes, it’s a great business decision to hire a military professional into our companies. Often, though, many don’t hire you, the veteran. Why? Because you’re just not the right fit. A more impressive candidate captured our attention, or maybe, through no fault of your own, we found someone internally or received a referral from one of our own employees. This happens all the time, whether it’s an army job or not. The irony is that many veterans and service members have the skills and experience to make the cut, or even get the second interview, but blow it. As recruiter for military jobs candidates, I see consistent themes in why military professionals don’t get the job. Many may blame the new Transition GPS, their branch of service’s career center or even the employers themselves, but here are the top real reasons why you’ll never get hired as a veteran:
