I did the CBCS course completely online. First off I need to say that I didn't do enough research before hand and I didn't not realize that the certification that one gets through the NHA at the end of this course IS NOT what companies are looking for when you're trying to get a coding job. For that you need to go through AAPC or AHIMA and they are over all much cheaper but can NOT be done with financial AID. So if that's what you want, this is not what you need. Over all, I feel like this worked for me because I had 2 kids at home and I honestly don't think I could have completed the program in a traditional in person course because I just didn't have consistent scheduling for it. If you are a person that really needs direction this is probably not the best idea. While you can email your instructors, there were a few that were really terrible about getting back to me, so you have to be good at researching and working on your own. I will say my student advisor was amazing and was always there to help. I was disappointed with amount of coding that was taught. It was so little but like I said this program will not get you a Medical Coder job so keep that in mind. The externship was disappointing in the sense that I don't think externship coordinator reached out to any of the place she asked me to submit and just stuck me in a place they already had a working relationship with. The typical response time for any kind of question or issue from the externship team was really lagging. They also took 3 weeks to finally get me my scrubs, by then I had already bought my own. I did really enjoy the externship though, the people were great and I was offered the job but turned it down to find a work from since I still have one child at home. Over all, the experience had its pros and cons and I do feel like it was too expensive for what it was. Really consider what type of job you really want as this will likely only get an office job that is NOT a medical coding job.

I went to ACC for a total of 3 years. My major was general health and science. I was one of those people who didn't exactly know what their path was; I knew what I wanted to do, I just didn't know what path to take in order to get to my goal. ACC was a total waste of time for me because I took ALL the classes my advisor told me to take so I can transfer to San Marcos or UTSA, but they failed to communicate with me that the requirements had changed. I was furious. I was tired of taking classes that had NOTHING to do with what I wanted to in the future, which was to work in the medical field ASAP. I honestly don't care about the pay as long as I'm doing what I love (but a great pay would be nice). So I felt lost and felt like I had to start over all over again. Until I remembered one of my close friends told me about a program that helped her sister get into the medical field within less than a year. So i went to the website and did a little research. I called them and after the second ring I hung up because I got nervous. Within two minutes they called me back, and I;m glad I answered. I'm now currently enrolled and it's my fourth month. It was probably the best decision I've ever made so far because I made so many passionate friends that are on the same boat as me so now I don't feel alone. The teachers here are so caring and they care about your future unlike ACC. Even though SCI isn't for everybody, SCI is definitely for me.

The admissions counselors, Gabe and Joanna, are very helpful with guiding and helping students get the help they need to get started with a program. I'm pretty impressed because it seemed like I didn't know where to start or what exactly to do, but once I made the decision to enroll in a class it all came together really quickly.
Business Response:
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience, Pinecone!

I love it , the new staff and administrators are the best and very helpful. I have a disability and they helped me so much with it so far and its making me want to keep going forward and not giving up like before the first time i came when the old staff was here in 2018 . But i recommend you here if you ever want to continue studying or want to study something. 💙🙏🏼
