Meet Diana, Hector and Kimberly, three SCI students who have gone through their programs, put in hours of studying, and worked hard to learn the job skills needed for their new careers. Now with their upcoming graduations, employment was front of mind for all of them.
Fortunately for these three SCI students, they attended the recent SCI Community Career Fair. They, and many others, chose to be proactive in their job search and network with a number of employers Southern Careers Institute brought to campuses across the state of Texas.
The hiring employers present at the career fair were so impressed with the skills these three learned at SCI, they were offered jobs on the spot. But how did they do it?
A Career Fair is primarily a networking opportunity, but you must be prepared. Treat it like a job interview, be prepared to talk about yourself and sell your skills. Have plenty of resumes on hand to distribute to employers which you are interested in. And make sure to make a good first impression. Shake hands, introduce yourself and smile.
But ultimately, employers are looking to see if you have the skills necessary for the job. At Southern Careers Institute, we call this getting the SCI Edge.
Our students know that in order to set yourself apart from the competition you must have hands-on experience. And SCI has been focused on providing career training programs which are developed with the employer needs in mind in order to make our graduates the most competitive job candidates in the state of Texas.
As you’re thinking about that new career move, ask yourself if you could use an SCI Edge to be more prepared. Whether it’s a career in Business, Computers/Technology, Cosmetology, Medical or Skilled Trades, SCI may have the right career training program for you. Plus with job training skills from our Career Services Team, you’ll be prepared for that next career fair or job interview.
Give yourself a much needed edge over the competition and call SCI today to get enrolled and get the training to get the job. Campuses are enrolling now in Austin, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Harlingen, Pharr and San Antonio. Call 844-783-6569.

“When my youngest child graduated from high school, I told my husband that it was my time. I went back to school to change careers after spending 37 years in the business field. At SCI, the instructors are professional, and they care about what they are teaching you, as well as expect you to give 100% in return. I had problems understanding how to draw in syringes and give injections. I requested extra help from a knowledgeable instructor, and I was able to receive one-on-one training. Today, I draw injections for approximately 100 patients each week. I am very confident in what I’ve learned. SCI has given me the chance to do what I always wanted to do. Thank you for my education. I am doing wonderful.”
