Reviews of San Antonio Vocational Schools

Reviews from other students are one of the best ways to determine the quality of a school. To help you choose between San Antonio vocational schools, we have put together a list of the good, the bad, and the ugly from some of the most popular trade schools in the area.

1. Kaplan College

Good On-site clinic gives us practice with real patients in real situations. Neutral The school was not anything special. I would [have] rather spent my money and time at a real community college. Bad I haven’t fully graduated with my program, but the career services state they will help me find a job no matter what. Seems nice, but on the other hand, career services people are at times very rude and don’t hold out on the appointments made with their students. … Every time I go into the office, they are all gone or out or just [too] “busy” to help you and want to just make an appointment with you.

2. The Art Institute of San Antonio

Good It was complicated to apply, but overall it was worth it. Neutral The classes were average. Not too crowded and had the right teachers to help. Bad I’m disappointed [in] some of the professors, how they can lack passion for some of the arts they’re teaching us.

3. Milan Institute of Cosmetology

Good I love my classes and teachers — they are awesome and help so much. I get a lot of homework, but it really does help me. Neutral There are only 4 computers available for student use, but that’s fine, as we don’t need to use them for much of anything. Bad Financial aid office not helpful [in] steering me to grants or scholarships.

4. Southern Careers Institute

Good My experience so far has been great. I love this school! Neutral [It’s] getting better from what I have been told. I can see the change in the program. Bad Overall, I think they charge too much, but I kind of need something fast and of course that always [costs] you money.

5. Brown Mackie College

Good I just got accepted in this school and just planning everything out they really seem to care and were very flexible with my [schedule]. It helps to know they understand. Neutral The school does not have a sports team of any kind, but we have a mascot, the lion. The student center is the lunch break area, nothing special there. Library is nice, lots of resources available and CPUs to use as well. Not really a campus, so there is no campus life to talk about. It’s in a building shared by a bank and some corporate offices. Bad In the past year and a half, there [have] been way too many instructors coming in and out of Brown Mackie. The instructors that are hired are not educated properly and some of them do not have the people skills they need to work in a classroom.   Opinions from other students should be just one consideration when deciding between San Antonio vocational schools. During your research, find out about the programs offered, financial aid options, certifications, and job support after graduation.

“When my youngest child graduated from high school, I told my husband that it was my time. I went back to school to change careers after spending 37 years in the business field. At SCI, the instructors are professional, and they care about what they are teaching you, as well as expect you to give 100% in return. I had problems understanding how to draw in syringes and give injections. I requested extra help from a knowledgeable instructor, and I was able to receive one-on-one training. Today, I draw injections for approximately 100 patients each week. I am very confident in what I’ve learned. SCI has given me the chance to do what I always wanted to do. Thank you for my education. I am doing wonderful.”
