WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT APRE-NURSING PATHWAY
Why would you want to be a nurse?
Nursing is a meaningful career for people who care about others and enjoy problem-solving. Nurses support patients and families during important moments, apply science in real time, and work on teams that make a visible difference every shift. The work is challenging, purposeful, and always needed.
What is a nurse?
Do you need any certifications to become a nurse?
Yes. To become a Registered Nurse (RN), you must complete an approved nursing program and meet state licensure requirements, including passing the NCLEX-RN exam. SCI’s AAS in Nursing prepares you to sit for the NCLEX and pursue licensure; individual states may have additional steps.
What skills do you need to be a nurse?
Successful nurses use clear communication, compassion, attention to detail, critical thinking, time management, and professionalism. Through labs and supervised clinical rotations, you’ll train to apply assessment, medication-safety, documentation, and patient-care skills while working effectively with a healthcare team.
Where can a nurse work?
RNs work in many settings: hospitals, clinics, long-term care and rehabilitation centers, home health and hospice, community/public health, schools, and outpatient specialty practices such as surgery, dialysis, and behavioral health. These options let you choose patient populations and schedules that fit your goals.
Do you need training to become a nurse?
Yes. Nursing requires formal education and supervised clinical experience before licensure. An AAS in Nursing includes core sciences, nursing theory, skills labs, and clinical rotations that prepare you for entry-level RN practice and the NCLEX-RN.
