BROWNSVILLE, TX / AGILITYPR.NEWS / October 16, 2025 / Brownsville, TX – Southern Careers Institute (SCI) Brownsville Branch Campus is proud to announce its sponsorship and participation in the upcoming Brownsville Police Officers’ Association (BPOA) Corn Hole Tournament on November 8, 2025. The event aims to raise funds for families supported by Friendship of Women, Inc. (FOW) during this year’s Thanksgiving season.
Friendship of Women, Inc. has been dedicated to aiding and protecting domestic violence survivor families of Cameron County since 1977. The organization provides essential services such as emergency shelter, sexual assault support programs, counseling, and supportive housing. Their mission is rooted in the belief that all individuals have the right to live free from fear, abuse, and oppression, and their daily efforts strive to eliminate domestic violence in all its forms.
Domestic violence calls make up nearly one-third of all calls received by the Brownsville Police Department. Unfortunately, the demand for FOW’s assistance increases during the holiday season due to added emotional and financial stressors. The Brownsville Police Department and FOW work closely to ensure survivor families receive the protection and shelter they need.
The BPOA Corn Hole Tournament is a non-profit community event that provides participants with the opportunity to make a difference for families affected by domestic violence. To support this meaningful cause, Southern Careers Institute Brownsville Branch Campus is donating $500 to benefit families in the Brownsville and greater Cameron County area. This sponsorship will help the Brownsville Police Officers’ Association bring resources, warmth, and holiday cheer to local families supported by Friendship of Women, Inc.
In addition to its sponsorship, SCI will also attend the event as a vendor, offering information about career training opportunities and ways to get involved with community support initiatives.
“Southern Careers Institute is honored to partner with the Brownsville Police Officers’ Association for such an impactful event,” said Jeremie Baldwin, Campus Director at SCI Brownsville Branch campus. “We believe in supporting the organizations and families that make our community stronger—especially during the holidays.”
