A business accounting specialist is a professional who is able to take care of a business’s finances. They deal with incoming and outgoing transactions, making them an important part of a team. They are necessary to keep businesses on track and help them stay profitable. Not only that, but they can also help businesses make the right financial decisions so that they continue to stay profitable.

So, what does a business accounting specialist do?

Business accounting specialists have many responsibilities. They can include:

  • Keeping track of incoming and outgoing transactions
  • Handling billing accounts
  • Handling payroll
  • Making and reviewing many financial reports
  • Helping business owners make decisions based on the financials
  • Look for irregularities in the books and fix these mistakes
  • Looking for better ways to improve the financial health of the business
  • Inventory management

The number of duties that you may have will depend on the size of the business. Smaller businesses may give you even more responsibilities, while larger businesses may have several people handling the finances. If you work for a smaller company, you may be required to do everything listed above. If you work for a larger company, you may be so busy doing payroll that you don’t have time to do anything else! You may also be in charge of payments coming in or payments going out, depending on the business that you choose to work for. You may decide that you want to do it all, while others prefer to stick with one aspect of accounting.

What skills are necessary for business accounting specialists?

Anyone who is interested in a career as a business accounting specialist must have certain skills and personality to help them succeed. These include

  • Math. You are going to be dealing with finances and numbers. You will be adding and subtracting numbers to keep the financial information straight.
  • Detail-oriented and organized. You are going to have a lot of responsibility, as well as paperwork coming in. You are going to have to be able to keep everything straight in order to know where the business stands at all times.
  • Computer savvy. You will spend hours on the computer, using different programs such as Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Trustworthy. You are going to be in charge of financial and sensitive information, so your employer is going to want to be able to trust you with this information.

To do this, you will need to know how to use many different programs. These may include:

  • Quickbooks Pro
  • Microsoft Access
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Microsoft Word
  • And much more

At SCI, the instructors are professional, and they care about what they are teaching you, as well as expect you to give 100% in return. I had problems understanding how to draw in syringes and give injections. I requested extra help from a knowledgeable instructor, and I was able to receive one-on-one training.
