Benefits of Being an SCI Student

SCI student-scitexas.edu

Being an SCI student means you are on the road to having a better life. Whether you are just out of high school, want a career change, or need extra skills to get a promotion or the raise you desire, there’s a training program for you.

Southern Careers Institute was founded for the purpose of helping individuals get the training they need to enter the job market.

In addition to gaining the skills required to successfully perform entry-level work and build the kinds of careers they want to have. Since opening its doors in 1960, SCI has helped countless students to do just that.

SCI Vocational and Trade Schools in Texas

SCI is a vocational education college that provides training in the medical, technical, business, cosmetology, and skilled trades fields.

A student can study to become a medical assistant, pharmacy technician, nurse aide, medical billing and coding specialist or medical office specialist in the medical field.

Be an administrative assistant, business administration specialist or business accounting specialist in the business field.

Become a computer support specialist, cybersecurity specialist, data science specialist or software developer in the technology field.

Study to be a cosmetology specialist in the beauty field.

Or they can study and become certified as an automotive service technician, commercial motor vehicle operator, electrical technician, HVAC technician, or welder.

These trade school programs educate students to master any skilled trade they desire.

SCI campuses locations are in Austin, San Antonio North, San Antonio South, Waco, Harlingen, Pharr, Corpus Christi, and Brownsville.

Multi-Field Career Training Programs

Southern Careers Institute offers multi-field training programs to get you on whatever career path you would like.

The business administration program prepares you to start-up, market, and grow your own small business.

It also teaches you to manage a large or medium-sized business or it prepares you for further business administration study.

Certifications available to you after you complete your training in business administration include Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook, QuickBooks Certified User, and Entrepreneurship and Small Business Certification.

Those who desire to work in the medical field can focus on a variety of specialties including pharmacy technicians.

To work in a pharmacy, students must complete a 40-week program and pass the certification exam.

Students develop skills in computer applications, pharmacy operations, prescription processing, pharmacology, and FDA drug safety.

Time and Flexibility

Students at SCI learn important skills like time management. Our programs offer the flexibility to learn at one\’s own pace.

Furthermore, online programs give students the ability to learn anywhere that they have access to the internet.

Someone interested in becoming a medical billing and coding specialist can not only get their degree online, but they may also have the opportunity to work from home.

Students can also gain skills in electronic health records, patient communication, office administration, and healthcare rules and regulations.

Additionally, graduates are able to sit for certification exams in billing and coding, medical administrative assistance, electronic health records specialist, and Microsoft Word.

Investing in Affordable Education

For students who want to continue their education but desire an affordable investment and don\’t want to spend the time it takes to earn a bachelor\’s degree, a traditional college like Texas A&M may not be too attractive. This is where a community careers college as SCI can help.

Students can complete programs in as little as five weeks with most requiring an investment of approximately 30 weeks. Financial aid in the form of grants and student loans is available to those who qualify.

Being an SCI Student Means Hands-on Experience

One of the best things about vocational training is that you can receive hands-on experience while in school.

SCI students gain knowledge in general subjects but also learn employer-tailored skills that make them marketable in their chosen industries.

Individuals who would like to pursue a career as an electrical technician must get hands-on experience before they are eligible to sit for Texas state licensing exams.

At SCI students can get enough on-the-job training prior to graduation. And by the time they finish the program, they are ready for entry-level work as wiring installers, residential electricians, or commercial electricians.

This gives them a head start in earning the necessary hours to advance to the journeyman level and beyond.

Preparing For the Job Market

Southern Careers Institute believes in preparing students for the job market.

Graduates of SCI gain access to Student Careers Services where they get valuable resources such as resume building, job readiness training, interviewing techniques, and guest speakers.

SCI Connect is a proprietary student career services portal where students can create personalized profiles that include their resumes, skills badges, work experience.

They also have the opportunity to create and upload videos of themselves performing tasks relevant to the jobs they seek to show that they have the skills required to do the work.

Tailored Job Searching

SCI programs are tailored to employers\’ needs. And by the time of graduation, students have the skills employers are looking for.

This saves time for both employers and employees because time and money don\’t have to be spent in additional on-the-job training once a hire is made.

Then, work can commence immediately because all of our students leave us well-prepared.

Connecting With Employers

In today\’s job market, certifications dominate job descriptions. Being an SCI student means you are prepared to sit for certifications by the time you graduate.

You are also connected to employers through SCI Connect. Here employers can post job listings for the positions they need to be filled.

Students can also highlight their transcripts and skills to show that they are already capable of handling required tasks competently and efficiently. Everyone wins and employers appreciate this service.
