Details on Southern Careers Institute Accreditation

When choosing where to continue your education, one of the things you hear is that the school you pick should be accredited. But what does that mean? Why is it important? And what is Southern Careers Institute accreditation? In this post, we aim to answer all those questions.

The Importance of Accreditation
For a school to be accredited it must meet rigorous standards, including certain educational standards, set out by the accrediting body. It is beneficial to attend an accredited school, as this enables you to:

  • Ensure you receive a quality education
  • Show potential employers that you have received appropriate training
  • Sit certification exams
  • Receive federal grants and loans
  • Transfer credits to another school

Southern Careers Institute Accreditation
We are accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education, located at 7840 Roswell Road, Building 300, Suite #325, Atlanta, GA 30350. In addition, our locations are approved by the Texas Workforce Commission and by Texas Veterans Commission to train eligible veterans.

About Council on Occupational Education
The Council on Occupational Education (COE) began in 1971 as a regional accrediting agency, part of the larger Southern Association of Colleges in Schools. In 1995, the COE became a separate, full accrediting agency and now accredits schools for more than 360,000 technical students across the country. To maintain accreditation with the COE, schools must keep program names, lengths, and active statuses unchanged, inform the Council of any substantive changes, file annual reports, attend workshops, schedule appropriate committee meetings, and complete reaffirmation of accreditation every two to six years.

About Texas Workforce Commission
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) licenses vocational schools, like SCI, and provides students and schools with information and technical assistance. TWC works with trade schools to make it possible for students to gain the skills they need to succeed in their careers.

About Texas Veterans Commission
The Texas Veterans Commission ensures that veterans receive the benefits they have earned after service in the armed forces. If a school in Texas is approved by the Commission, veterans can be exempt from tuition costs when they use benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill®, Selective Reserve Option of MGIB, Hazlewood Act, Post 9/11 GI Bill®, and others.   Accreditation is only one of many great reasons to study at SCI. Check out our website and blog to find out more about the school, the programs we offer, and why we are a great choice for so many students.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site at http://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.

“When my youngest child graduated from high school, I told my husband that it was my time. I went back to school to change careers after spending 37 years in the business field. At SCI, the instructors are professional, and they care about what they are teaching you, as well as expect you to give 100% in return. I had problems understanding how to draw in syringes and give injections. I requested extra help from a knowledgeable instructor, and I was able to receive one-on-one training. Today, I draw injections for approximately 100 patients each week. I am very confident in what I’ve learned. SCI has given me the chance to do what I always wanted to do. Thank you for my education. I am doing wonderful.”
