How To Get A Pharmacy Tech License

The process of earning your pharmacy tech license has never been easier. There are only a few simple steps you’ll need to take before you can enter the medical industry as a trained and certified professional. You pharmacy tech license will be your gateway to an increased earning potential, great job prospects, and even better career mobility. To begin your journey, you just have to find the answers to a few simple questions; how long does it take?; what do you need to know?; and what’s the next step after you get licensed? How Long Does it Take?

There are a number of top pharmacy tech programs across Texas that can provide you with everything you need to start your medical career with confidence. Depending on the program you choose, the schedule you prefer, i.e. day or evening classes, full or part-time, etc., you can complete your training and graduate in as little as 8 months (day classes), or 12 months (evening classes). Once you’ve earned your pharmacy tech certification you’ll need to register with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. To successfully register with the PTCB you’ll need schedule, take, and pass the PTC exam. Exams are held regularly in over 350 Pearson Professional Centers and military test centers across the country. You can register to take this exam online and to organize an examination schedule to suit you. You only need to register and pass the PTC exam once. After successful registration with the PTCB, you are also required to register with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. You must be registered with the TSBP to work as a pharmacy tech in Texas. You can register through the State of Texas Licensing System and pay the registration fee; $62 for pharmacy tech trainees, and $99 for pharmacy techs. You must renew your pharmacy tech license every two years. The registration process usually takes 4-6 weeks to complete, from start to finish.

During your pharmacy tech training you will learn all of the essential skills and knowledge you’ll need to truly excel in your career. From the relevant computer applications (including Microsoft Word and digital file management), to pharmacy operations and basic pharmacology skills, you will receive career training that can be used in whichever position you find employment. You’ll also find your training and hands-on experience invaluable when taking your PTC Exam. Without the right training you’ll inevitably find it very difficult to pass.

After successful graduation and registration you’ll have the opportunity to find lasting and rewarding work in a wide variety of positions.
