7 Ways You Can Stand Out After Passing Your HVAC Certification, San Antonio

Once you have your HVAC certification, you’re on your way to starting a career as a technician. There are many opportunities for employment, including around 1,820 jobs in San Antonio–New Braunfels alone. However, to compete with other graduates from HVAC schools, you need to ensure that you stand out. Here are a few ways to do just that.

1. Earn Additional Certifications

Holding a single HVAC certification is useful but having numerous may seal the deal. Gaining additional certifications is a great way to demonstrate your expansive skill set. Possibilities include:

  • Green Certification
  • R410A Certified
  • Indoor Air Quality Certification
  • TDLR ACR Certification
  • NATE Certified
  • Preventative Maintenance Certification

 2. Become Licensed
Another option to increase your qualifications is licensure with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). With an EPA license, you can work with refrigerants, enabling you to apply for jobs that for which other HVAC professionals may be unqualified.

3. Gain Experience
Choosing a San Antonio school that provides hands-on training is a must, but you can gain more experience by taking part in an externship, internship, or volunteer work. Real-world experience is critical for many employers and sets you aside from other graduates.

4. Be Willing to Continue Your Education
Your education shouldn’t end when you finish school. The HVAC industry is always progressing, and to stay on top of new trends and changes, you need to continue learning. Read trade journals to show prospective employers that you are up-to-date in the latest news and enroll in training course to increase your knowledge.

5. Possess the Most Desired Skills
At a minimum, you should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge in the following areas:

  • EPA regulations
  • Interpretation of construction drawings
  • Green technology
  • Air-conditioning technology
  • Heating and ventilation systems
  • Refrigeration systems
  • Customer service

  6. Improve Your Communication Skills
If you appear confident, competent, and professional, you will develop a good relationship with your customers. Show off your communication skills from your very first interaction with potential employers by submitting a well-written resume and cover letter, free from mistakes and typos. Then continue to make a good impression by paying attention to your manner and body language when you meet in person. Finally, follow up all interviews with a short message of thanks.

7. Learn About Troubleshooting
To be an asset to their company, HVAC technicians need strong troubleshooting abilities and must be able to work alone without constant guidance. Study as much as you can about troubleshooting, to ensure that you are always ready with a number of viable solutions, and practice whenever possible to put your knowledge to the test.   Standing out from the crowd is key when entering the HVAC industry.  Choose a school that offers training and support in all the above areas in addition to preparation for an HVAC certification San Antonio.

At SCI, the instructors are professional, and they care about what they are teaching you, as well as expect you to give 100% in return.
