Corpus Christi Colleges Survival Guide

For freshmen at Corpus Christi colleges, survival is the name of the game. There are a few key components to any college survival guide that will, if followed correctly, result in you not having to worry about unexpected problems, hiccups, or obstacles. Read on to find some practical advice that will see you through your first college year. Prepare and you will prosper!

Explore
Within the first few weeks of arriving at whichever of the great Corpus Christi colleges you are attending, make sure that you explore your campus. Even if all of your classes are in the same location, simply take a walk around and see the sights. You’ll be able to discover the best places for study and daydreaming, and the most popular areas where you can make friends and socialize, or simply hang out. You should also begin exploring beyond campus grounds. You’ll likely find some fantastic places to eat and hang out – as Corpus Christi colleges are so ethnically diverse, you’ll be able to broaden your tastes and interests in no time. You can also scope out some locations if you want to move closer to college in the future.

Get to Know Faculty
Becoming friendly with faculty is a great way to settle into your new life. You’ll find that most staff will be happy to lend you support and guidance if you’ve made the effort to get to know them. It’s also a great way to start building lasting connections within your field of study through to your professional life. You should make an effort to learn the office locations and hours of Heads of Department, financial assistance, career guidance, academic advisors, etc. so that you can easily find the help you need if and when it’s required.

Socialize
Almost as important as study itself, meeting new people, joining clubs and societies, and getting out of your comfort zone will allow you to find who you really are and find ‘your’ people. On the first day, if you’re nervous, remember that everyone’s feeling the same way you do. Everyone will be grateful for some social engagement, even if it’s just a friendly ‘hello’. Always remember to be respectful. You won’t like everyone and not everyone will like you. It’s a fact of life. You just have to deal with it, forget about it, and get on with things.

Be Yourself
There is nothing more stressful or personally damaging than trying to be someone you’re not, or trying to fit in with a crowd that does not suit you. The best piece of advice you’re likely to hear is to find who you are, find a way to love who you are, and believe that you are worthy of being yourself. Never try to fit a mold as nobody is made of the same material. Once you begin to see yourself for who you are, you will discover that survival will come that bit easier to you. Beginning any new chapter in life is bound to intimidate even the most confident individuals. There are a lot of things that will be thrown at you during your first few weeks as a freshman in Corpus Christi. Colleges will make you deal with situations that may be enjoyable, stressful, and everything in between. In the end, you’re going to remember your college years with fondness and the knowledge that you did the best you could and experienced some great times with some great people.
